Education advocacy organization puts support behind candidates who will fight for children in the Ocean State and its capital city.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Collective Action for Education today announced its endorsement of Mayor Brett Smiley for reelection in Providence. The organization believes Rhode Island and its capital need leaders who are not afraid to fight for students and expand access to good public schools in the state.
“Mayor Smiley shares many of Collective Action for Education’s core views on education,” said Victor Capellan, founder and CEO of Collective Action for Education. “Families and children in Providence need a leader who believes that access to a good education should not be a privilege and that families are a key partner in their children’s schooling.”
With Providence Public Schools having been returned to local control this summer, it is crucial that city leadership remains supportive of strong schools and ensures students have great teachers, a well-rounded education, and necessary support.
The organization will make endorsements in other key races this cycle, including several Providence City Council and General Assembly races. CAFE plans to continue to announce endorsements as the campaign season continues. Rhode Island’s statewide primary election will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
